(MHI) completed a joint demonstration with Kirin Beverage Co., Ltd. and Kirin Group Logistics Co., Ltd. to establish the elemental technologies for automation of inbound and outbound warehouse operations at beverage warehouses, and truck loading and unloading. Going forward, the companies will pursue further development and verification with the aim of practical application.The joint demonstration, begun in August 2024, was conducted at LogiQ X Lab, a demonstration facility located within Yokohama Hardtech Hub (YHH), MHI's co-creation space in Honmoku, Yokohama, and at Kirin Group Logistics' Nishi-Nagoya facility and other sites.(*1)For this joint demonstration, MHI utilized a new type of unmanned forklift that is currently under development equipped with ΣSynX (Sigma Syncs)(*2), part of the "Smart Connections" solutions incorporating ΣSynX technology. The demonstration tests aimed to establish elemental technologies to enable flexible autonomous operation and safe human-machine coordination, including appropriate load assortment in warehouse work, altering of operational routes in response to changes in placement locations and storage conditions, and highly efficient storage methods.Through this joint demonstration, MHI has established the processes for future automation of the entire cargo handling process, including unloading of trucks, warehouse handling, and loading onto trucks, and was able to verify the effectiveness of these processes at actual logistics facilities.MHI categorized routine logistics warehouse work, which up to now has been conducted safely and efficiently through the expertise, experience and skill of operators, into the three areas of picking, inbound and outbound processes, and the loading and unloading of trucks, and progressively implemented measures incorporating ΣSynX for automation and intelligence. Until recently, most companies relied on “segment marketing,” which groups customers based on attributes such as age or gender and provides tailored proposals to each group. In recent years, however, “1-to-1 marketing,” which offers personalized proposals for each individual customer, has been gaining attention, creating a need for more precise customer understanding.To effectively implement 1-to-1 marketing, it is essential to utilize sequential behavioral data obtained from various daily customer touchpoints and to understand customer needs based on the entire process leading up to product purchases or service subscriptions, known as the customer journey. However, because the frequency and format of data differ across touchpoints, integrating and analyzing time-series data has been technically challenging. For example, app usage generates high-frequency operational logs, while in-store data mainly consist of lower-frequency data such as purchased items and payment methods. Integrating these diverse datasets in a unified manner is difficult, and when trying to further account for combinations and sequences of customer interactions, the complexity and computational cost of analysis increase significantly.To address these challenges, NTT and DOCOMO jointly focused on solving them by selecting DOCOMO’s telemarketing operations as a use case for 1-to-1 marketing.Development Background and CollaborationDOCOMO has developed the “CX Analytics Platform,” which converts diverse customer touchpoint data into unified time-series data formatted according to the 4W1H format (Who, When, Where, What, and How). This platform has helped improve the efficiency of data utilization across marketing initiatives.Meanwhile, NTT has been conducting research and development on an AI technology called LAM, which learns and predicts patterns of behavioral sequences in time-series data that includes both numerical and categorical data (Figure 2). This technology has an architecture similar to large language models (LLMs) and enables future behavior prediction with a Transformer*3-based model.In this collaboration, the two companies integrated their respective technologies. By leveraging DOCOMO’s CX Analytics Platform to consolidate customer data into time-series form and applying NTT’s LAM with an optimized tuning method, they built DOCOMO’s proprietary LAM, achieving significant reductions in computational cost.Figure 2 LAMSummary of Results- Establishment and Optimization of the LAM TechnologyWhen dealing with large-scale models and data, improving prediction performance often comes at the cost of increased computational load. In this project, through careful design and parameter optimization, DOCOMO successfully built its proprietary LAM with a total computation cost of 145 GPU hours (132 GPU hours for pre-training and 13 GPU hours for additional training).During pre-training, parameters necessary for predicting customers’ intended actions were optimized. During additional training, parameters required for personalizing promotional activities were fine-tuned. The total computation time corresponds to less than one day on eight NVIDIA A100 (40GB) GPUs.For reference, this efficiency is approximately 1/568 of training Llama-1 7B, an open-source large language model that requires 82,432 GPU hours (see Figure 3). As a result, DOCOMO has accumulated expertise in building cost-effective LAM models and successfully applied this know-how to real-world marketing use cases.Figure 3 Comparison of construction costs between LAM and in-market LLM- Operational Improvements through 1-to-1 MarketingUsing DOCOMO’s proprietary LAM, customer needs and the necessity of telemarketing were quantified as scores. Solar power operators use these time-series data to forecast future solar radiation, develop generation plans, and conduct electricity trading with retail power suppliers. Fluctuations in the power output of geographically adjacent solar power facilities reflect the effects of cloud movement and position on solar radiation. Analyzing these patterns is useful for improving the accuracy of solar radiation forecasts. The contract was concluded in partnership with Gap Insaat Yatirim ve Dis Ticaret A.S. (GAP), a leading Turkish contractor. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on November 2, 2025, attended by the President of Turkmenistan, His Excellency Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The plant is scheduled to begin operations in 2030.The project involves the construction of the largest ammonia and urea fertilizer production plant in Turkmenistan. Located on the coastline of the Caspian Sea at Kiyanly in the Balkan province in northwestern Turkmenistan, the project covers basic and detailed design, equipment procurement, construction works, and commissioning of the plant. In addition to the ammonia and urea fertilizer production plant with its associated utilities and offsite facilities, the scope also includes peripheral infrastructure such as temporary piers and product shipment facilities. The planned daily production capacity is 2,000 metric tons of ammonia and 3,500 metric tons of urea. The tests pave the way for deployment of 5G-Advanced NR NTN standard, which will lead to future satellite and terrestrial interoperability within a large ecosystem, lowering the cost of access and enabling the use of satellite broadband for NTN devices around the world.The trial used OneWeb satellites, communicating with the MediaTek NR NTN chipset, and ITRI's NR-NTN gNB, implementing 3GPP Release 19 specifications including Ku-band, 50MHz channel bandwidth and conditional handover (CHO). Diesel fuel is the primary cost factor in mine operations, and reducing fuel consumption has been a challenge for many years. In addition, the CO2 emissions generated by dump trucks account for more than 50%* of the total emissions from mining machinery in operation at mines in many cases, which makes reducing their environmental impact an urgent issue.To address these challenges, the Project will manufacture a hybrid dump truck for demonstration testing based on an electrically driven EH4000AC-3 rigid dump truck that uses a diesel engine as its power source. The demonstration test dump truck will be equipped with an AC drive system manufactured by Hitachi Industrial Products, which operates using electricity generated by a diesel engine and electricity recovered through regenerative braking and stored in onboard batteries. The demonstration test will be conducted at a mining site in South Africa. As part of the implementation of the demonstration test, Hitachi Construction Machinery will provide training on the repair and maintenance of hybrid dump trucks to service personnel in South Africa and other countries of the Global South as well as locally transfer knowledge and conduct human resource development.Compared to the existing EH4000AC-3, the demonstration test dump truck reduces both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 10% or more, which helps reduce lifecycle costs and the environmental impact in mining operations. In addition, the use of HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) may theoretically reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90%*, which has the technical potential to accelerate decarbonization efforts. Furthermore, the ability to retrofit existing dump trucks into hybrid dump trucks will enable mining companies to effectively utilize the assets that they own and support the realization of sustainable operations.Hitachi Construction Machinery has promoted the joint development and demonstration testing of full battery dump trucks to realize net zero emissions at mining sites. The head pipe supporting the steering and the pivot bracket supporting the rear are both directly connected to the centrally located power unit. By eliminating the traditional frame, the WN7 achieves not only weight reduction but also greater layout flexibility, contributing significantly to its slim and compact proportions.In addition, positioning the heavy battery pack at the center of the chassis also enhances mass centralization and agile handling. Integrated motor-inverter unitA newly developed, compact and lightweight water-cooled motor with an integrated inverter powers the WN7. It delivers a maximum output of 50 kW, equivalent to a 600 cc ICE motorcycle, and maximum torque of 100 Nm, comparable to a 1000 cc class ICE motorcycle. This ensures powerful yet composed performance both in city riding and on open roads.Power from the motor is transmitted via a newly designed gearbox to a belt-drive system, which drives the rear wheel while contributing to quiet operation. Drive battery and charging standards The WN7 is equipped with a newly developed 9.3 kWh fixed lithium-ion battery. It supports both CCS2 fast charging*1 and Type 2 normal charging*2, compatible with standard household outlets in many regions. With a fast charger, the battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes, allowing for quick recharging on the go and reducing the stress of waiting time.In addition, normal charging fully charges the battery from 0% to 100% in under 2.4 hours*3, providing a cruising range of 140 km (WMTC mode) on a full charge.Regenerative braking, Deceleration Selector, and Walking Speed Mode During deceleration with the throttle off, the WN7’s motor performs energy regeneration while providing regenerative braking*4.
