(Headquarters: Tokyo, Representative Director: Prashant Nikam, “MSD”), a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc., Rahway, NJ, USA, announced today that an application for LENVIMA® (lenvatinib), an orally available multiple receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) discovered by Eisai, has been submitted in Japan for the additional dosage and administration in combination with WELIREG® (belzutifan), the first-in-class oral hypoxiainducible factor-2 alpha (HIF-2α) inhibitor from MSD, for the treatment of unresectable or metastatic renal cell carcinoma that has progressed after chemotherapy.This application is based on the results of the Phase 3 LITESPARK-011 trial evaluating the dual regimen of LENVIMA plus WELIREG for the treatment of patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) whose disease progressed on or after treatment with anti-programmed death receptor-1 (PD-1)/ programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) therapy. The data from this trial were presented at the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Genitourinary (GU) Cancers Symposium in February 2026. At a pre-specified interim analysis with a median follow-up of 29.0 months (range, 19.3-49.2), the LENVIMA plus WELIREG combination therapy demonstrated a statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvement in progression-free survival (PFS), one of the primary endpoints, reducing the risk of disease progression or death by 30% (HR=0.70 [95% CI, 0.59-0.84]; p=0.00007) compared to cabozantinib. The trial enrolled 747 patients who were randomized to receive WELIREG (120 mg orally once daily) plus LENVIMA (20 mg orally once daily) or cabozantinib (60 mg orally once daily).At a pre-specified second interim analysis with a median follow-up of 29.0 months (range, 19.3- 49.2), WELIREG plus LENVIMA demonstrated a statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvement in the primary endpoint of PFS, reducing the risk of disease progression or death by 30% (HR=0.70 [95% CI, 0.59-0.84]; p=0.00007) compared to cabozantinib. For WELIREG plus LENVIMA, the median PFS was 14.8 months (95% CI, 11.2-16.6) versus 10.7 months (95% CI, 9.2-11.1) for cabozantinib. A trend toward improvement in overall survival (OS), the trial’s other primary endpoint, was also observed for WELIREG plus LENVIMA (HR=0.85 [95% CI, 0.68-1.05]; p=0.06075). The median OS was 34.9 months (95% CI, 27.5-NR) for WELIREG plus LENVIMA versus 27.6 months (95% CI, 24.0-31.4) for cabozantinib. The trial is continuing, and OS will be evaluated at a subsequent analysis per the clinical trial protocol. Regarding secondary endpoints, at the first interim analysis with a median follow-up of 19.6 months (range, 9.9-39.8), WELIREG plus LENVIMA met ORR, demonstrating a statistically significant improvement compared to cabozantinib. A confirmed ORR of 52.6% (95% CI, 47.3-57.7) was observed for WELIREG plus LENVIMA versus 39.6% (95% CI, 34.6-44.8) for cabozantinib. At the second interim analysis with a median follow-up of 29.0 months, the median DOR was 23.0 months (95% CI, 2.0-44.3+) for WELIREG plus LENVIMA versus 12.3 months (95% CI, 1.8+-35.9+) for cabozantinib. WELIREG plus LENVIMA was administered to 370 patients and cabozantinib was administered to 371 patients. Grade ≥3 treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) occurred in 71.6% of patients receiving WELIREG plus LENVIMA versus 65.8% of patients receiving cabozantinib. Adverse events led to treatment discontinuation in 11.1% of patients receiving WELIREG plus LENVIMA and in 11.3% of patients receiving cabozantinib, respectively. Fujitsu, which has developed and mass-produced high-sensitivity infrared sensors, was awarded this project and has now successfully completed its development.Overview of the developed sensorInfrared sensors capture infrared radiation spontaneously emitted by objects with heat, visualizing their surface temperature distribution. Fujitsu has leveraged the characteristics of T2SL, a compound semiconductor with a superlattice structure that allows for material property control, to develop a unique dual-band sensor. The superlattice structure, where different semiconductor materials are layered at the nanometer (one billionth of a meter) level, offers high sensitivity, as well as excellent control over detection wavelengths and manufacturability. By selecting a combination of semiconductor materials with a large energy offset in their band structure (i.e., Type-II Superlattice, T2SL), it is possible to detect infrared light, which has lower energy than visible light.This sensor can detect MWIR and LWIR wavelength bands, with high-sensitivity capable of detecting temperature differences of 0.05°C or less. By simultaneously detecting two wavelengths with a single pixel, it can accurately detect and identify targets that would otherwise be obscured by background noise during detection with single-wavelength sensors. However, within the construction industry, no technology is currently available for comprehensively supporting the entire process—from the accumulation of video data on construction machinery operations, to the extraction of risk scenes, the analysis and visualization of near-miss incidents, and, ultimately, the generation of reports in an end to-end manner.Against this backdrop, SHI—leveraging its expertise in construction machinery and data analytics—and NEC, with its long-cultivated capabilities in video recognition and cutting edge generative AI technologies, will jointly initiate the development of a first-of-its-kind system for the construction industry that automatically extracts near miss incidents and generates corresponding reports based on camera footage and sensor data captured from hydraulic excavators.OverviewThe new system will utilize an extraction AI model, trained on real world hydraulic excavator data accumulated on the SHI Group’s ICT/IoT common platform "SHICuTe" (1), to first identify and extract risk scenes from recorded video footage. These risk scenes, together with operational data from the hydraulic excavators, will then be analyzed using NEC’s proprietary technology that combines video recognition with generative AI (2), and stored as multimodal data incorporating temporal and spatial information. Based on this data, along with SHI’s expertise in construction-site machinery operations and human workflows, the system will cross reference hazardous and prohibited behavior data—which are defined by accidents, construction equipment failures, and operations requiring particular attention—as well as company specific data. Based on these matching results, the system will automatically identify the risk scenes that should be reported and automatically generate high quality near miss reports that provide a concise summary of the circumstances surrounding each incident.Prior to this initiative, a technical proof of concept was conducted in September 2025 to verify a system that automatically extracts near miss incidents and generates reports from video footage captured by cameras mounted on hydraulic excavators. By combining ver. 3 of the STAR architecture, a unique highly efficient phase rotation gate quantum computing architecture, with a novel molecular model optimization technique, researchers have significantly reduced computational resource requirements. This breakthrough will enable the energy calculations for chemical material design such as catalyst molecules, within a realistic timeframe using early-FTQC quantum computers. These kinds of calculations are currently not possible using current computers, and would take millennia even using previous versions of the STAR architecture. The technologies are expected to contribute to solving various societal challenges, including accelerating drug discovery, improving the efficiency of ammonia synthesis processes, and advancing carbon recycling technologies.BackgroundQuantum computing holds significant promise across a wide range of industries, including drug discovery, cryptography, and finance. However, current quantum systems are highly error-prone, and practical applications are generally believed to require quantum computers with millions of qubits.To improve error correction and accelerate practical application of quantum computing, Fujitsu and The University of Osaka established the STAR architecture ver. 1 on March 23, 2023, followed by ver. 2 on August 28, 2024. The latter, with advanced phase rotation gates, significantly expanded computational scale, enabling potential early-FTQC calculations of solid-state material properties like high-temperature superconductivity.However, accurately calculating complex molecular chemical energies for practical applications still required excessive resources, and prior methods were limited by insufficient computational power or impractical timeframes.Newly developed technologyThis joint research [1] has demonstrated that combining the following two technologies enables energy calculations for chemical materials with sufficient accuracy and within a practical timeframe:1. Technology for molecular model optimization This molecular model optimization technology is designed for use with quantum computers implementing STAR architecture ver. 3 and is applied during the process of generating quantum circuits from molecular modelsThis technology refines existing methods, which reduce computational resources by decomposing molecular models into many terms and selectively applying two techniques—time evolution and random sampling—with different characteristics based on the importance of each termThe technique reshapes the molecular model while preserving approximation accuracy, redistributes term importance, and optimizes the balance between the two techniques. This minimizes the number of gates in quantum circuits for molecular energy calculations, achieving a substantial reduction of computation time compared to conventional methodsFigure 2: Principle of molecular model optimization To validate the effectiveness of these technologies, the researchers evaluated the number of qubits and computational time required for industrially applicable energy calculations for three distinct molecules: Cytochrome P450, an important oxidizing enzyme in drug discovery; Iron-sulfur clusters, catalytic proteins involved in ammonia synthesis and energy metabolism; and Ruthenium catalysts, a focus in synthetic chemistry. Accurate energy calculations for these molecules are currently infeasible with classical computers due to memory limitations. Even with the STAR architecture ver. 2, such computations would take several millennia and high precision calculations would be difficult to achieve due to the scale of the calculation. The results of this validation primarily demonstrate that the STAR architecture ver. 3 reduces the number of qubits necessary to perform the calculations to between 1/15 and 1/80 of conventional FTQC architectures. Furthermore, the partners confirmed that calculations are feasible on early-FTQC quantum computers even with a lowered physical error rate requirement for qubits, from the previous 0.01% to 0.10%.Figure 3: Number of qubits required for energy calculation of three molecules Moreover, the molecular model optimization technology shortened computation time by three orders of magnitude compared to not using the technology. Fujitsu and The University of Osaka confirmed that computation times could be significantly reduced to approximately 35 days with a qubit error rate of 0.10% and approximately 10 days with 0.01%. Further reduction in computation time is possible with future expected reductions in the physical error rates of quantum computers and the use of parallel computing with multiple quantum computers, making the achieved computation times sufficiently practical. TOKYO and CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Mar 23, 2026 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - Eisai Co., Ltd. and Biogen Inc. announced today that new real‑world findings from an analysis of long‑term treatment persistence and baseline characteristics among people receiving intravenous (IV) lecanemab (generic name, brand name LEQEMBI®), an anti‑amyloid‑β (Aβ) protofibril antibody, showed that most patients continue with ongoing lecanemab therapy after the initial 18 months of treatment. The analysis was presented at the 20th International Conference on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases and Related Neurological Disorders (AD/PD™ 2026) in Copenhagen, Denmark, and online.In real‑world clinical practice, patients with chronic diseases who stay on their treatments longer tend to experience better clinical outcomes and higher satisfaction.1,2 Ninety-four percent of patients who completed 18 months of lecanemab treatment in the Phase III Clarity AD chose to continue maintenance treatment by enrolling in the subsequent open-label, long-term extension (OLE) study. In the OLE of Clarity AD study, patients continue to benefit from four years of lecanemab treatment compared with the natural course of Alzheimer’s disease (Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative: ADNI*).Long-Term Persistence and Patient Characteristics for Lecanemab in Real-World Use in the United States (Presentation: March 20, 17:05 CET)This analysis is the first time real-world lecanemab data on treatment persistence beyond 18 months has been reported.This study was a retrospective observational analysis using the PurpleLab® CLEAR Claims database, a comprehensive dataset based on medical insurance claims across the United States and was conducted to evaluate the long‑term treatment persistence of lecanemab in real‑world clinical practice.Patient background and dosing The analysis population consisted of 10,763 individuals who met the requirement for continuous healthcare encounters, out of the 13,388 individuals recorded in the database who received at least one intravenous treatment with lecanemab between January 6, 2023 and November 30, 2025. At baseline, the mean age was 73.8 years and 56.5% were female. The most common comorbidities were dyslipidemia (42.2%) and hypertension (36.9%). The mean follow-up duration was 350.9 days. The average number of administrations was 1.7 per month, and the mean dosing interval was 16.4 days (median 14 days), which was generally consistent with the recommended every two weeks dosing.Long-Term persistence results The time-dependent proportion of patients who remained on lecanemab treatment was evaluated, using the Kaplan–Meier method in a subgroup of 371 patients who initiated treatment in 2023 and had 20 months of continuous follow-up, thereby enabling assessment of long-term treatment persistence beyond 18 months. As a result, 78.4% of individuals continued lecanemab treatment at 18 months, 71.7% at 20 months, and 67.3% at 24 months. Of the 78.4% of patients who remained on lecanemab at 18 months, the majority of them continued treatment during the maintenance period beyond 18 months, confirming a high rate of treatment persistence with lecanemab in real-world clinical practice. The patient characteristics and dosing patterns observed in this claims-based analysis were generally similar to those reported in the Clarity AD. In December 2025, Lecanemab (IV) has been included in the “Commercial Insurance Innovative Drug List”, recently introduced by the National Healthcare Security Administration (NHSA) of China.In the global Phase 3 placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel-group, randomized Clarity AD core study, the mean change from baseline between the lecanemab treated group and the placebo group after 18 months was -0.45 (P=0.00005) on the primary endpoint of CDR-SB global cognitive and functional scale. To provide context, a change from 0.5 to 1 on the Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) score domains of Memory, Community Affairs and Home/Hobbies reflects a shift from mild impairment to loss of independence. This can affect a person’s ability to be left alone safely, recall recent events, participate in daily activities, manage household tasks, and engage in hobbies and intellectual interests.3,4Over three years of treatment, including both the core study and the OLE, data showed lecanemab demonstrated a reduction in cognitive decline—measured by CDR-SB—of 1.01 points compared to the expected decline observed in the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) cohort. This benefit grew more pronounced after four years, with a reduction of 1.75 points. Similarly, when benchmarked against the expected decline in the BioFINDER** cohort, lecanemab showed a reduction of 1.40 points at three years and an even greater reduction of 2.17 points at the four years mark.Since July 2020 the Phase 3 clinical study (AHEAD 3-45) for individuals with preclinical AD, meaning they are clinically normal and have intermediate or elevated levels of amyloid in their brains, is ongoing. AHEAD 3-45 is conducted as a public-private partnership between the Alzheimer's Clinical Trial Consortium that provides the infrastructure for academic clinical trials in AD and related dementias in the U.S, funded by the National Institute on Aging, part of the National Institutes of Health, Eisai and Biogen. The new line is scheduled to become operational in 2028, with annual production capacity of 670,000 units, bringing the total capacity of the second plant to 2.01 million units. HMSI Second Plant Motorcycle production line in HMSI Second PlantThe second plant of HMSI began motorcycle production in July 2011, with an initial production capacity of 600,000 units, which was doubled to 1.2 million units in March 2012. Furthermore, since 2023, the second plant has been introducing new technologies in stages to automate machining processes and further increase the overall production efficiency. As a result, the second plant currently has annual production capacity of 1.3 million units. HMSI continues to introduce new technologies with a plan to increase annual production capacity of its second plant to 1.34 million units before the end of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027.In order to accommodate the continuous growth and diversification of motorcycle demand in India, HMSI will invest approximately 15 billion rupees to acquire 74,000 m² of land adjacent to its second plant to build a third production line. The new line will be designed to be flexible to produce total 670,000 units of 125cc and 160cc scooters and light motorcycles combined.
